Ivan Frank, Citroen Dealer in the US.

.....
.....
Edouard: I met Ivan in February 2011, the Citroen passion was the link...
Since this meeting we became friends.

But to resume his interests to Citroen only would be an insult to his knowledge and mechanical skills.
However I do not attempt here to make a complete biography of the man (this would gain to be done but is beyond my ability)
Ivan is an mechanical genius and a salesman...
The list of his interests and extensive collections would sounds like this random list:
All related Citroen materials (from Poster to miniatures to real cars).

....

......

Models of Toy Trains (AF, Lionel O&STD...), all “Tinker Toys” and Felix the Cat related objects, Centrifuges (mainly the one used in the medical field), Flying model of airplanes of the 1930,40,and 50... , “Erector & Construction Set, Tools, and Electronic from the 40's to 70's, etc...

.....

A visit to his home, is like a museum: a cavern overfilled with rare and interesting items.
Impossible to walk! All the surfaces are covered, from the floor to the ceiling every square inch is used to store hang, display's archive objects books or tools...

.....

It is impossible not to be intrigued and stopped by something appealing your interest! Whatever are you center of interests! The bathroom is not spared either!
An oversize garage in the back of his property will reveal the big toys, cars and heavy machines alike...

.....

Ivan voice will guide you through this article, explaining who this or that works... Many stories add to the background and place the object in its context. Through this huge collection we can appreciate the life of a true Citroen fan. I was also baffle by this machine made by Ivan: It was the first Electric and not Electronic machine to total votes in Colorado... This huge beast was installed in its own room in a official building. Recently reformed Ivan was the only able to keep it running!
So again for the sake of this article I will limit myself to the Citroen part...

Ivan Frank: I was born in 1937. I live in Denver Colorado since 1949 and never left my town except for his 5 years of military service in Chicago. From Denver, however I drove a lot. I have made numerous road trips all over the US and Canada behind the wheels of Citroëns.

1960.......
At the age of 22, I discovered my first Citroen in a dealership. Why did I buy a Citroen?

.....

My first car, purchased in 1957, was a Hot Rod 55 Chevy sport coupe. I owned it for 2 years but I was deceived by it. From a mechanical stand point, I felt that nothing was made to last forever, and all parts were consumable and had a short life expectancy.
So when the Chevy appeared to need more maintenance in the near future, I decided to part with it.
Initially I wanted a Corvette but could not fit in one. (Ivan is pretty tall!) Plus I a more austere person. All the clutter and blinking and chrome is not to my taste...

My search took me to a foreign car dealership owned by Carl Bartz. The man was selling Citroen among other brand such as such as Simca, Renault, Peugeot, Gogo mobile, Studebaker, Tcheckercabs, and of course Citroen!
The DS19 sold me! The pure lines of the body, the dashboard had no frills, the good gas mileage, and technical/futuristic advances persuaded me this car was superior to American products.
The 1959 dash board made me think of Buck Rogers! The slim low profile and the aerodynamics appealed to me....
So I went for a ride and the hydraulic suspension sold me. The seats were comfortable. The deal was made.

$2773.32 dollars was the exact cost to become a member of the Citroen family!
from this point on, a long love affair started....

.....

Edouard: I could finish at this point saying they lived happily ever after and had many kids.
Of course, you would have read that his heart remained to Citroen and he owned several cars through the years.
While true, the Citroen virus infected him so deeply that he made a point to spread and disperse it,and to publicize the advantage of the Citroen over American cars.
Of course he was performing all his own maintenance. He got into road rally and auto cross with his cars.
He raced his Citroens with the same success that DS and ID enjoy in Europe.

Ivan had the n° 77 on of Rally.

The dashboard of this Id has been seriously modified for competition. A huge tachometers and various gauges had been added. Nothing has been spared to add performances and keep the driver comfortable. You will note the presence of a radio and a full hash tray! Ivan smoke like a chimney even when in competition!

Those 2 pictures are sensational! I am not talking of the driver, you will note all along this article that you will never see the same girl behind the wheel....
This more likely due to the Charisma of Ivan, who knows! This Rally ID does not exist anymore. But there is something left today of this car...

The push button of the trunk lid of this car and the long back fenders, permit to situated exactly the year of this Id: 1960. Please note the nice logo of the dealer 'Carl Bartz” and the dual exhaust pipes. Those are not fake!!! This Id is equipped with 2 exhaust manifold and on top of 2 carburetors. (system Connaught)
Ivan always love France, and the F sticker is a proof of it...
The reflectors are typical to the export model.
